Chino Mine Project

The Chino Mine is a large copper mine in southern New Mexico. Principle contaminants are mining-related metals, particularly arsenic, copper, lead, manganese, and zinc released over several decades of mining. Neptune and Company, Inc. is conducting the risk assessment for two Chino investigation units under an Agreement on Consent between Chino Mines Company and the New Mexico Environment Department.  The risk assessments integrate a geomorphology-based sampling design to assess human health risks from residual contamination in creek systems. The sampling design and exposure assessment were developed in concert so that data will support evaluation of contaminant transport as well as multiple site-specific exposure models.
