We are seeking environmental modelers to join our team in both Lakewood, CO and Los Alamos, NM. Modelers at Neptune & Company, Inc. (Neptune) work with a strong interdisciplinary team of scientists and statisticians to apply advanced technical methods and reasoning to a wide variety of complex problems related mainly to environmental systems, contaminant transport, risk assessment, and decision-making. We partner with private, non-profit, and governmental organizations to develop practical, defensible, cost-effective solutions in the arenas of environment, energy, health, food, and climate change. There are many opportunities for challenges and professional development, with the support of other scientists and modelers. What you need to apply:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in environmental science, environmental engineering, or specific scientific field (e.g., hydrology, hydrogeology), or equivalent experience

  • Willingness to take on new challenges, to ask questions, and to learn quickly on the job

  • Experience working with scientists and engineers from other disciplines

  • Very effective oral and written communication skills

  • Experience programming in environmental modeling programs such as: GoldSim, MODFLOW, FEHM, TOUGH2, HYDRUS, AERMOD, or other similar programs

  • Background in at least some of these areas: contaminant transport, hydrology, groundwater modeling, surface water modeling, erosion, air dispersion, biotic modeling, applied mathematics, probabilistic modeling, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis

What will set you apart:

  • Environmental consulting experience, particularly with contaminant transport modeling in support of risk assessments and/or radiological performance assessments

  • Experience in stochastic modeling or simulation of environmental systems

  • Desire to advance the state of the science for solving complex environmental problems

  • Desire to promote skills and company capabilities at conferences and meetings

  • Strong interest in staying up-to-date with the latest reproducible research practices and technologies

  • Interest and experience in project development and/or project management

  • Clear evidence of ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing and presentation
