Polona Carson, Ph.D., M.B.A., is an analytical chemist with versatile experience in managing analytical laboratory and quality systems. She led implementation of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 in an environmental laboratory, implemented and managed an internal proficiency testing program for a network of 10 company laboratories in manufacturing, and saved a laboratory from closure by careful analysis of profitability and performance. Her graduate research work was on the evaluation and optimization of sampling design for monitoring forest soil using composite samples. She delivered training in sampling, laboratory quality control, and statistics to many laboratory professionals.
When working at the Slovenian Forestry Institute, she was instrumental in the implementation of EU regulatory requirements for forest monitoring in Slovenia. She also served as a representative of the Republic of Slovenia on several expert panels for harmonization of methodology for laboratory analyses and quality control in the European Forest Monitoring Program.
