Statisticians at Neptune and Company, Inc. (Neptune) work with a strong interdisciplinary team of scientists to apply statistical methods and reasoning to a wide variety of complex problems, related mainly to environmental monitoring, risk assessment, and decision making. We partner with private, non-profit, and government organizations to develop practical, defensible, cost-effective solutions in the arenas of energy, environment, health, food, and climate change. We are seeking a statistician to join our team in Lakewood, CO or Los Alamos, NM. We will consider statisticians at any point in their career, but are particularly interested in mid-career statisticians with extensive experience in consulting, environmental statistics, and/or statistics to support risk assessment.

What you need to apply:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Statistics, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in statistical consulting
  • Willingness to take on new challenges, to ask questions, and to learn quickly on the job
  • An interest in environmental science
  • Experience working with scientists from other disciplines, or very effective oral and written communication skills
  • Experience programming in R Statistical Software
  • Background in at least some of these areas: sampling design, Bayesian inference and methods, decision analysis (including utility theory), general data analysis of environmental data, spatial statistics, temporal statistics (e.g., Bayesian spatio-temporal modeling), computational statistics, web-based code development, sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, stochastic modeling or simulation (of environmental systems), environmental consulting or research, and data analysis to support risk assessment

What will set you apart:

  • Environmental consulting experience, particularly with risk assessments and/or performance assessments
  • Background and interest in Bayesian statistics and/or decision analysis
  • Other computer programming expertise (beyond R, SAS, and other statistical software packages)
  • Desire to advance the state of the science or of the application of statistics to complex environmental problems
  • Strong interest in staying up-to-date with the latest reproducible research practices and technologies
  • Interest and experience in project development and/or project management
  • Clear evidence of ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in stochastic modeling or simulation of environmental systems
  • Experience with statistical consulting for legal work
